Problem: Is this old news?
What do we mean by cladding scandal?
This is not the first website attempting to highlight the various issues resulting from the Grenfell fire in 14th June 2017.
Maybe you think you’ve heard all this before. You know most of the issues and believe the government is dealing with it.
The builders are fixing the external cladding and dealing with the all remedial repairs etc…
Sadly, this is not the end of the saga.
It is a shock to realise there are entire blocks of apartments that have not had any work costed let alone started.
Has anyone considered all the implications, not just the inconvenience of a delay but real serious financial and emotional consequences to real people.
This new campaign is for the entrapped, the innocent, unseen, unheard leaseholders who are still struggling day-to-day to be free from the straightjacket that has resulted from inaction.
Problem: Apathy
Problem – has “it” gone away?
What is “it”? What is the problem anyway? – is it one problem?
It started as a social crisis and ended up a scandal.
Is 1 year not enough to sort out this mess? 2 years? 3 years, 4 years. 5 years, 6 years, 7 years, 8 years – it just keeps going…..
What happens to lives in the last 8 years?
A void, endless waiting, just carry on as normal? It will all be fine in the end? When is the end?
Putting life “on hold” would be bad enough but this is not the case other realities happen.
If all we had to do was wait for things to be sorted then dream on, this is pure fantasy land.
Where is the Levelling Up Fund ?

Negative Equity and mounting debts,
- What happens if you want to sell your leasehold apartment and there is no EWS1 certificate because the building still does not have a safety certificate (EWS1) ?
- What happens when you have to sell? What happens when the interest rates triple?
- What happens when the mortgage expires?
- What happens when you try and remortgage – extend the mortgage?
- What if the lender repossesses?
The implications of Grenfell fire and new building regulations are ongoing.
What do the government think is happening ? Do they think of us at all?
There is no indication that they do. Not a single mention in any recent budget- no help.
They are effectively trying to wash their hand of the entire mess.
Objective - Action
We will not be forgotten, or sidelined.
We want to establish how big a national problem this still is ?
We wish to compile a reliable database of individual stories that can be used to build a picture of the ongoing issues.
Who is affected? we do not know the scale of these issues
Many forgotten separate stories and too many people powerless and broken by lack of swift intervention.
Individuals cannot fight this alone – It has all become too difficult. There is not any proper help out there, everyone is either too busy. uninterested. or there is not enough money to be made by the legal or insurance litigation system. Finding legal advice on this unprecedented subject is virtually impossible. Getting Legal Aid is worse than hopeless.
We are all jaded by the continual stream of articles which mention individual struggles with cladding related issues within leasehold apartments.
There are already several prominent campaigns and websites pushing for action on specific areas, however, we really do not know the scale of all this-
How many are suffering and battling away on their own right now?
Why has there been no assistance or support from Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors , the Financial Conduct Authority or NHBC (National House Building Council).
Why are lenders allowed to repossess leasehold properties where there is still no way feasible way to remortgage ?
Why should mortgage lenders be allowed to sell to cash buyer for a fraction of the price
We must coordinate, link hands – and become an unbreakable chain. A relentless campaign for government action and financial redress, compensation and damages for the years of suffering. We must start a chain reaction
We do not want another government enquiry to delay responsibility.
We do not want an MP to say they agree with everything and is very sorry but can do nothing about it!
Leaseholders do not want pity they deserve support require allocations of funds and resources and above all they demand fairness and justice.
The government has caused all these rippling issues. They have not provided the necessary swift intervention required.
They have completely abandoned us and left it to market forces to cash buyers exploiting the vulnerable innocent and powerless individuals, punished, who no fault of their own bought a leasehold property.
Is is not bad enough that we have been mis-sold lease have ever increasing service charges – ground rent exploitation and now this disaster.
The FCA have also failed to take any serious measure to intervene and help those who most need it.
This is also turning into a human rights issue
People are struggling financially and mentally this is a form of torment and abuse.
the way forward
It is the sad reality and a sign of the times, that to be heard we must campaign strongly and continually.
There are two options
An individual takes on a separate case and wins – this would make landmark case law and would help others to follow.
There are enough cases to make a group class legal action worthwhile with the goal of accountability and financial redress.
Once we have an indication of lives affected – we start a fund – engage the lawyers and build awareness and momentum
- Immediate Goals
- Lobby government for a designated Cladding Minister (a separate department alongside levelling up) – regular meetings to begin the process of action.
- Change the repossession laws
- Free dedicated specialist helpline
